How did the artwork come about?
Well, as with the logo we decided that to truly be unique, we needed to create a world in which 3 Legged Things roam wild. We took inspiration, as mentioned on the Concept & Design pages, from old B Movies and cult classics. Initially, we wanted to promote our Britishness by creating a recognisable scene with some of our most cherished landmarks. We stumbled across a brilliant digital montage - an artists interpretation of War Of The Worlds, where London was under seige by alien tripods. The concept was so strong and the link to our brand so obvious that we decided to recreate the scene in our own, inimitable way...
Building the concept from scratch
The hardest part of any design work is building the concept. It is never enough to just have an idea. We'll show you the process below that we went through to achieve each and every unique illustration.
First, we downloaded a series of images of famous London landmarks. Then, with prodigious photoshop skills (not), and a flourishing of the "clone" and "healing brush" tools, we came up with this:

A vision of London in ruins was the starting point, but to truly create a masterpiece we needed what every decent comic needs - a villain! And so we spent hours discussing ideas with Phil and putting together a written profile of the character(s) that we felt we needed.
Phil started sending us sketches within 24 hours, each one a progression from the last. They started off quite sinister - a little too dark, truth be told, and so we reigned it in a little and tried to create a cheeky, lovable rogue tripod.

Finally, Phil managed to convey our vision, and thus was born - Brian.

Brian was everything we wanted in a design. Cool, funny, cute and just a little bit evil...
The London Scene
The London Scene was our first proper work of art, and this is why it adorns our packaging and literature, as a testiment to the hard work that went in to building the whole concept. Now we had Brian, we just had to integrate his cool facade into a picture of devastation...
The first attempt didn't quite work for us, and was made using one of the original designs:

We asked Phil to integrate the original London Scene concept with Brian, and to then add other characters to compliment the scene. We were getting more and more excited at the prospect of finally realising our dream that, fed up with being pestered by us Phil sent us through a partially finished image. This was the day when 3 Legged Thing really came to life.

And then Jess joined in. She is special...

But this went on to become our "Batman" Scene...
